Every family has favorite recipes that appear on the holiday table each year. The taste of grandma’s special cookies is enough to bring back memories of Christmas past.

Fruitcake Cookies

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 3 teaspoons soda dissolved in 3 teaspoons milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 lb pecans
  • 1 lb dates
  • ½ lb candied cherries
  • ½ lb candied pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon mace

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 325°

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add bourbon. Combine spice, fruits and pecan with flour in separate bowl. Add soda milk to sugar egg mixture then stir in flour mixture.

Drop by teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet.
Cook 10-12 minutes


Honey Bars

  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cup sifted flour
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ cups pecans

Frosting

  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

DIRECTIONS

Mix honey, sugar, egg, oil. In another bowl, sift flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda. Add pecans to flour. Gradually fold flour mixture to oil and honey. Do not overmix.

Oil and flour large baking sheet. Press dough into pan. Bake 325° for 20-22 minutes.

After cool, apply frosting.

Honey Bar Recipe


Sweet Potato or Pumpkin Pie

  • 3/4 cup cooked sweet potato
  • 1/2 stick butter melted
  • 3/4 can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 eggs
  • 10″ pie crust

DIRECTIONS

Mix all ingredients. Pour into unbaked 10″ pie crust. Bake 350° for 30 minutes. Reduce to 300° and bake until firm.
